IV Krasnoyarsk museum biennale
“Art of
memory”

Dear colleagues!
Logic of the Krasnoyarsk history of artists and museums'
meetings, periodically happened on Mira place, 1, lead us to inevitability to
design various experiences into a particular kind of art - art of memory.
Memorative action, directed to finding of sense of time (and -
sense of millenium) can possess its own magic and poetics. From antique time
till Prust's "searches" or Borches's "geterotopia" in culture appeared and
continue to appear creative strategies, driving to movement significant
territories of art.
Our interest first of all is appealing to spatial kinds of art
of memory, those kinds of creative practice, that involve phenomenology of body
experience, plunging a person into environment of involuntary memoirs. These
memoirs arouse the imagination, equally productive for contemporary art and
creative culturology.
Ancient people said – in order to memorize something, one needs
to imagine the system of places and put into it, as much as possible, bright
images and words. Venice of ХVI
century gave birth to half-legendary phenomenon "Theatre of memory",
architectural device, striking contemporaries not only by its ability to let one
to memorize huge volumes of text, but also by visual demonstration of the
Universe system.
What kind of places and images form today's architecture of
consciousness? What should one memorize and what should one speak about? - such
questions appeal also to contemporary museum. Museum should try to become a new
memo-technique mechanism, able to express inner states of a human being and the
world, to represent memory as a resource of imagination.
Participants of biennale are offered to join in the process of
gathering collection of concepts and experiences of memoirs, types of memorative
signs and languages, and also effective images and images-affects for the
"recollection of future". “We need only few things…” And may be it will be
enough one bright memory from childhood…
Ephemeral museum of the Krasnoyarsk biennale will be
constructed from different places, where in atmosphere of involuntary memory the
drawing of time traces is formed, expressing the history of thing's event.
Simultaneously, the structure of event may rely on the mystery
of memorative communication, when the Past is constituted by the Present. When
in rumble of languages of our impossible cosmopolitan place "the truth is
mumbling", and - when things will manage to lay in collective body of intensive
recollection their own routes, forming their own, going out the borders of
"chamber genre", layer of sense, freedom of interpretation.
We suggest to trust in play of imagination…
Biennale Competition programmes:
- “Theatre of memory” - museum expositions competition
- “Museum postcard” - small expositional forms competition
- “Monuments of Mira place” - museum performances competition
In order to catch in the net of actual memory particles of body
experience, in frames of the biennale basic expositional space branching
architecture of the "Theatre of memory" is created, making up from original
"cloak-rooms - by Wilson", for filling in - test them by words and things. Here
one can find places both for conceptual archives, "impossible encyclopaedias",
and for private, colored in personal tones collections, for myth-and-poetical
ritual-narrative pictures of world and for elementary particles of primary
sensibility, smells and tastes, whispers and cries.
In frames of competition "Museum postcard" you have a
possibility to show your idea, concept, credo of your museum or expositional
project. The competition programme is supposing presentation of compact and
mobile "utterance" in small museum form genre: “museum album”, “museum in
suitcase”, “table museum”, “museum casket” or “museum verte( вертеп)”.
“Monuments of Mira place” - performance of ephemeral monuments
under open sky, where happens the touch of city to the art of memory. For
creating monuments in adjoining to Museum center presentation areas creative
groups are offered to use wide set of means of actual art, experimental music,
square theatre, ritual action and carnival procession.
To participate in competition programmes of biennale are
invited state, private, public, and also other establishments and organizations,
running expositional activity in sphere of culture.
Participants of biennale are defined on competition base by the
organizational commettee of biennale. Applications for participation in
competition programmes of the biennale "Art of memory" should be send not later
than 20, March, 2001 on a postmark.
For definition of the biennale winners the Expert council from
leading art historians and myseology specialists from Russia and world is
forming.
In frames of biennale there will be working agency "Museum
sputnik" on organization, design, producing and spreading of travelling
expositions.
